Cyber criminals are not in lockdown! With so many people working from home, spending more time than usual on the internet and accessing social media more than ever, there is plenty of opportunity for cyber criminals and fraudsters to attack. Home networks and mobile phones don’t necessarily have sufficient security and strong enough firewalls, leaving you vulnerable to online and phishing scams, spyware and ransomware attacks. The coronavirus pandemic has provided these criminals with a new hook, as everyone is hungry for news and updates on Covid-19.
What you can do:
- Check that your mobile phone security is up-to-date and working – run regular scans
- Ensure your mobile phone’s software is up to date, as that will also help to ensure you have the latest security in place
- Check that you have adequate up-to-date antivirus and malware protective software on your computer
- Be extra careful when clicking on links and downloading attachments from emails and in Whatsapp messages, especially if it’s related to the coronavirus
